Brief Discussion
Graph 1 and graph 2 show prac 1 with three subjects. The body temperature for subject one dropped by 0.9 of a degree, subject 2 by 0.8 of a degree, and subject 3 0.7 of a degree. The pulse for all three subjects over the duration of jogging the lap was higher by a significant
amount, subject 3 showing the biggest difference at 43. Looking at the blood pressure on the same experiment all of the systolic blood pressure was elevated, but on one of the diastolic measurements they dropped while the other one was higher than previously.
In prac 2,the 100m sprint, the same basic results were shown. The body temperature drops, while the pulse picks up, if the vitals were
tested again after 5 min from this experiment, it would be seem that the body’s corrective mechanisms would be at work at the vitals move closer and closer to normal. There was however, body temperature from subject 1 that dropped like expected, but dropped too low, as 33.9°C seems a bit of an anomaly. The blood pressure from this experiment was more consistent that the other test as all of the systolic increase and the diastolic decrease.
Prac 3 was testing homeostasis in a different way because instead of running to get the heat rate up to see a change, it was caused by simply shocking the subject. The subjects body temperature, for just getting frightened changed quite dramatically as within
around 5 seconds it dropped by nearly a degree. The pulse increased as well like expected. With the blood pressure the systolic went higher and the diastolic dropped raising the confidence that these tests show good results because of its consistency.
Prac 4 involving red bull also works differently to the first 3 as it affects the body by affecting the blood glucose levels. The body temperature is
pretty steady but goes up and down by a tenth of a degree or so except subject 2. Subject 2 at 15 min after consuming the drink dropped down to 35.2 degrees from previously having it recorded at 36.7 degrees, making a difference of 1.5 degrees which also can be considered a bit of an anomaly. The pulse for the subjects had all different reactions. Subject 1 went higher than evened out, subject 2 lowered than evened out, but subject 3, their results were very up and down and then dropped really low. From the beginning of the hour to the end, subject 3 pulse nearly
decreases by half, at this rate is said that this is around when the subject can start to feel lightheaded as this pulse is too low. All the subjects blood pressure over the hour ended higher than it started had not in that time began to correct accept subject 1. Subject 2 seemed pretty stable with only minor changes throughout but subject 3 was steadily rising the whole time and finished the hour with a systolic pressure 45mmHg higher than it was and a diastolic 64mmHg higher.
From these results it can predicated that because when exercising and the muscle tissue needs more oxygen, the blood flow and blood pressure are increased and the heat speeds up to pump it around the body faster to get the oxygen around. While exercising and taking the body
temperature straight away it was suspected that the body temperature would go up as the body hasn’t had time to respond yet as the next step for the body to once again find a balance would be to sweat to release the heat that was gained in the body. The response also besides from producing heat erector muscles in hair relax so that less air is trapped between hair, and less insulation so heat is lost quicker. Sweat glands become active, and the breathing rate increases so the warm air is removed quicker.
from these results it is evident by just looking at the data that homeostasis is in work in some way during the tests. as the figures get thrown out of balance, by loooking at the read bull test that when things change, even if not straight awat, the body is trying to correct what has been changed. Lke in prac 1 how the blood pressure adjusts becasue the breathing rate picked up to get more oxygen to the body as it was being used up and also becasue the heart started beating quicker. as people are physical, or eat certain things or feel pain, the body's vitals change to make up for the reaction to try to bring it to balance again, a synthetic balance. from these tests it was seeing that homeostasis is at work in the body all the time.
